Sports Premium Spending
27th May 2015
This academic year, the school has used our Sports Premium spending in a range of innovative ways to ensure children at Great Gaddesden are active, healthy and being given a variety of exciting opportunities to access a wide range of sports. This has included each class having half a term of P.E. delivered by external professionals.
Nursery and Reception accessed martial arts workshops over the last half-term. The workshops were delivered by Nigel Smart from Hertfordshire Karate and were a truly fantastic way to get children active and engaged in physical activity.
Years 1 and 2 had the opportunity to try cheer-leading this term. The workshops were a fun and lively approach to develop co-ordination, timing and team-work skills.
Years 3 and 4 took part in some brilliant gymnastics at Sapphire Gymnastics in Hemel Hempstead. Children had opportunities to work on a range of gymnastic equipment including the trampoline, beams, rings, and bars developing both their strength and stamina.
Earlier in the year, Years 5 and 6 had sports workshops delivered by Watford Football Club. This unit of work culminated in children taking part in a penalty shoot-out competition at Watford Club. The skills that our team had developed took them to the final of the competition, placing 2nd overall!
There is plenty more to come for P.E. over the remainder of the Summer Term, with Olympic workshops against other local schools for Nursery & Reception, Years 1 & 2 and Years 3 & 4 as well as an inter-school Athletics Event for Years 5 & 6. In addition to this, we continue to participate in our village school football league; have our whole school sports day as well as inter-village sports!
