School Meals

At Great Gaddesden pupils are offered the choice of a hot school meal available at a cost of £2.30 per day, or the option to bring their own healthy packed lunch from home.

All children eat together with Infants eating first and then juniors next.

After consultation with our school council, we now follow the Herts Catering "Pupil Choice" menu which can be found below. Each day pupils have a choice of choosing a "Red" meal (meat or fish) or a "Green" meal (vegetarian). There is also a cold option on offer during the summer months.

Meals for Key Stage One (Infants) are chosen by their parents. We will send menu choices home each half term and ask you to indiciate a preference for your child. Children in Key Stage Two (Juniors) are able to choose their own meals each day.

As we are a small school without adequate kitchen facilities for large-scale catering, our hot meals are prepared off-site and transported to the school by Herts Catering staff. If you want to change pre-indicated choices on a certain day, then please let the school office know before 9am as your childs menu choice cannot be changed after this time.

Pupils who bring a packed lunch also have the option of having a school meal on two set days - "Roast Wednesday" and "Fun Fridays" which can be pre-ordered half-termly.

Free School Meals are offered to those accessing Pupil Premium. If you think your child may be eligible for Free School Meals then please contact the school office.

Payment for School Meals must be received within three weeks of the bill being issued. This is a requirement set out by Herts Catering.

Morning Break
Children in Nursery/Reception/Year 1 and Year 2 will receive a piece of fruit through the NHS SFVS (School Fruit and Vegetable Scheme) and parents also have the option of ordering milk on a termly basis in advance. Details are sent home towards the end of the second half of each term. Children in Years 3 – 6 may bring in their own piece of fruit to have at break time.

Please note that as we have children with nut allergies, Great Gaddesden is a nut-free zone, so please refrain from giving your child any nut-related product as a snack or in their packed lunch.
