Church School Status

School mission statement: 'Treat others as you would like to be treated yourself'. (John 6, 31)
A church school with strong Christian values

As a Church of England Voluntary Aided school, we have very close links with St John the Baptist Church, which is next to the school. We are part of the St Albans Diocese.
This is our guide for all we do at Great Gaddesden school, with Christian values underpinning all our decisions and policies.
RE curriculum :
Our inclusive RE curriculum includes teaching the children about other faiths, in addition to Christianity.
Children of all faiths and no faith are welcome in our inclusive school.
In addition to OFSTED inspections, as a church school we also receive a SIAMS inspection.
Collective Worship
A form of Collective Worship is held each day for all children. Throughout the week, the children will have the opportunity to gather together to celebrate Collective Worship as a whole school. On other occasions, the children will celebrate Collective Worship as a class.
All Acts of Worship will include the lighting of a candle, a period of reflection and a prayer.
Every Friday, we gather together for Collective Worship at Church at 9 a.m. Parents/carers are welcome to join us at this service which lasts on average 15-20 minutes and is led by Rev'd John Russell. Parents, extended family and friends are always welcome to join us.
Community Links
We use the church as an extension of our school, including extended for art sessions, drama productions, opportunities for periods of quiet reflection and celebrations of the liturgical year.
We make use of the outdoor environment to enhance our curriculum e.g. Forest School environmental art.
Our annual 'egg rolling' competition, which takes place after our Easter Service, is a favourite for all pupils and staff.
Throughout the year, we join with the church to make significant days in the calendar. This includes participating in the Remembrance Day Service, Christmas Carol Services and Christingle Service.
The School and Church "Friends" Associations also hold joint fundraising ventures, which include our Summer Fair.
Services are held at St John the Baptist each Sunday at 10:30 a.m. A family service is held every second Sunday of the month.
