In our Early Years Foundation Stage unit, we teach phonics by using Jolly Phonics. Opportunities for the children to practice their reading and writing takes place during child-initiated and adult-led activities. The children are very excited about their new writing shed in their outdoor area. Children are given a reading book to take home to enjoy and share with parents.
We follow a child-led curriculum, in which the context of the learning is generated by the children's interests.
Adults in the classroom monitor the children's progress and attainment across all areas of the Early Years curriculum and provide children with the opportunities they need to develop their knowledge and their skills.
We use 'Tapestry', which is an online learning journal, to record and track each child's achievements and to share the next steps in their learning. Each child has their own unique Tapestry identification . This gives the parents/carers the ability to log on at any time to view the progress and achievements made during the school day. Parent/carers are also able to add their own contributions to this, by sharing successes and achievements made at home.
The website, EYFS Newsletters and emails are some ways in which we keep parents updated about our learning, themes and activities.
