Early Years

Welcome to the Early Years at Great Gaddesden.

Please take the time to read our Sept 2018 Welcome Letter below which gives reminders and information for current Early Years parents/carers

Our class teacher is Miss Ayres. Mrs Batson is our Nursery Nurse and Mrs Waites supports our learning in Early Years too.

Our Reception class runs from 8:50am - 3:15pm.

In addition, we also have a Nursery every day from 8:50am - 12:00pm for children as young as 3 years old.  We now also offer a lunch-time club from 12:00pm - 1:15pm.

Please contact the school office for more information. We would love to share our learning with you.

In our Early Years class we teach phonics in a range of ways including using Jolly Phonics and learning our letters using 'Read, Write, Inc'. Children also have many opportunities to practise their reading and writing during adult-led and child-initiated activities. Children are given sound and word cards to practice at home when they are ready and a reading book when they are able to blend sounds to read words.

We follow a child-led curriculum, meaning the context of the learning is generated by the children. Adults in the classroom monitor the children's progress and attainment across all areas of the Early Years curriculum and provide children with the opportunities they need to further develop their knowledge and their skills.

We will keep you updated about what we have been learning in our Early Years class and offer suggestions of ways in which you can support your child at home.
