Spirituality

How do we define spirituality?

At Great Gaddesden CE (VA) Primary School, we define spirituality as a holistic journey, offering a space to develop, reflect and explore the depths of our being.

It involves the realisation and revealing of something innately within, a profound understanding that goes beyond the material world.

It encourages individuals to become aware of the world in all its wonder, embracing the interconnectedness of the world and our place within it.

Central to spirituality is empathising with others and cultivating inclusivity, recognising the shared humanity that binds us all together.

We provide opportunities for spiritual, moral and cultural development accross the curriculum, through our collective worship and also providing space and time to reflect spiritually throughout school life as well as ask and answer 'big' questions.

Our Garden of Reflection
In July 2024, our Garden of Reflection was completed. This provides a quiet place for reflection and a space with different colours, scents and a place to be at one with nature.

The children can access this space when they need to and our reflection ambassadors support younger children use the space.
Spritual Development in Practice
“School culture is characterised by the practice of thoughtfulness, empathy and reflectiveness

"Collective worship is central to the life of the school. It strongly reinforces the Christian vision and its
associated values and promotes the spiritual flourishing of adults and pupils."

Leaders have established a rich culture in which adults make pupils’ spiritual development a priority. The
forest school and reflection areas offer them rich opportunities to reflect and experience wonder"
